The doctor sat alone in the coffeehouse, the newspaper in hand.
"MISSING PERSONS CASES ON THE RISE IN NEW YORK AREA
The New York State Police department has reported a bizarrre rise in the frequency of abductions throughout the state. Victims in the latest wave of cases have ranged from the kidnapping of one individual on his way home from work to the mysterious disappearance of an entire hotel's worth of guests. Police Chief Douglas Ashton offered no comment."
Taking a pair of scissors from the back room he cut the article from the day's paper. Retreating to a back room he pinned it to a board. Articles, photographs, bags of various miscellany were pinned there. He took a length of string and connected it from the new article back to another, leading in a chain to the center. The center held one word.
