Well... A good portion of what he did... or at least most of the stupid shit... was that thing.
He had a son. A Pumpkinzoner. He couldn't have children of his own so he adopted. He saw you as a friend, but not his child. all that FAMILIAL BOND shit? Obelisk. That thing has been poisoning his mind for years. It made him forget. It made him desire you as a replacement. It made him try to attack a wizard with dreadflame powers with an axe. I think it wants to do the same to you. For years Mark barely had a moment of clarity. It was like he was drunk, Obelisk guiding him around. It hated him. It wanted to see him suffer. It wanted to see him grow attached to you so that it could take that away... somehow...
